Sr. Constance Smith, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Constance Smith, age 91 of the Srs. of St. Francis, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the convent. Born November 28, 1922 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Teresa (Nee: Miller) and Arthur Smith.She entered the convent September 15, 1942 and made her final vows August 12, 1948. A teacher, she spent three years in elementary education before moving on to secondary education teaching math, physics, chemistry and electronics for over 50 years. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1997 but stayed active as Director of Retirement along with some substitute teaching at Oldenburg Academy. Schools she taught at include Holy Trinity in St. Louis Missouri, Our Lady of Mercy of in Dayton, Ohio, Fenwick High School in Middletown, Ohio, St. Mary Academy and Scecina High School in Indianapolis and Oldenburg Academy in Oldenburg.Sr. Constance is survived by her sisters Mildred Schaedel of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Mary Jo Fry of Batesville and brother Norbert Smith of Carmel, Indiana. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Rita Schneider and brothers George, Harold, Louis and Carl Smith.Visitation is Monday, February 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Motherhouse in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Nelson O.F.M. officiating and burial in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
