Sr. Edith Soergel O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Edith Soergel O.S.F., formerly Sr. Mary Edwin Soergel, age 82, a member of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the convent. Born July 14, 1927 in New Albany, Indiana, she is the daughter of Edith (Nee: Day) and Edwin Soergel.She entered the convent September 9, 1944 and made her final vows August 12, 1950. Sr. Edith was a teacher and principal for 44 years. She served 38 of those years at Holy Trinity, Little Flower, St. Bernadette and St. Gabriel, all in Indianapolis, St. Anthony in Morris, Catholic Central and St. Mary, both in New Albany, St. Mary in Lanesville and Our Lady of Presentation School in Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1990 to 1998 she was involved in Family Home Care, Council for Aging, Bereavement Committee and Parish Ministry before retiring to the Motherhouse in 1998.Sr. Edith is survived by sisters Doris Hancock of New Albany, Indiana, Theresa Hulsman of Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Soergel of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers Joseph Soergel of Louisville, Kentucky, Edwin Soergel of Indianapolis and Robert Soergel of Irving, Texas. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Victor and Paul Soergel. Visitation is Thursday, July 1st, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Stanley Herber officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
