Sr. Julitta Steckler O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Julitta Steckler, age 97 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Friday, September 21, 2012, at the convent. Born July 28, 1915 in Haubstadt, Indiana, she is the daughter of Anna (Nee: Hillenbrand) and John Steckler.She entered the convent June 15, 1933 and made her final vows January 6, 1941. She was a teacher and principal for 48 years. Schools included Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Clements in Cincinnati; St. Catherine and Holy Trinity in St. Louis, Missouri; St. Anthony’s in Streator, Illinois; Sacred Heart in Clinton, Indiana, St. Mary’s Greensburg, Indiana, St. Francis de Sales, St. Mark’s and St. Lawrence in Indianapolis, St. Wendel in Wadesville, Indiana, St. Joseph in Princeton, Indiana, St. Anthony’s in Evansville, Indiana and Holy Family in Oldenburg, Indiana. Her ability to teach any student to read, her kind manner and her quick wit allowed her to serve both students and adults as teacher. After retiring from teaching in 1983, she would spend the next twelve years in nursing home ministry, parish ministry and at the Ozanam Shelter for homeless families in Evansville before retiring in 1990.Sr. Julitta is survived by her sister Sr. Dorothy Steckler O.S.F. of Oldenburg. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Anita, Veronica, Priscilla, Carrie, Lorene, Ann Louise, Mary Dolores and brothers Gilbert, Albert, Raymond and Francis. Visitation is Monday, September 24th, from 1-3 p.m. at Motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating.
