Sr. Mary Walter Sokolic O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Mary Walter entered the convent in 1954 and made her final vows in 1960. She would teach and serve as principal for over 40 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany, Indiana, St. Joseph's in Princeton, Indiana, St. Louis School in Batesville, Indiana, St. Anthony's in Dayton, Ohio, St. Aloysius, Our Lady of Victory, Seton High School, Roger Bacon High School and St. Clements, all in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sr. Mary Walter became familiar with the Franciscan Sisters in St. Louis, Missouri where she was an elementary teacher at Holy Cross School. After three years of working with the Franciscans, she decided to join the order, taking her religious name of Sr. Mary Walter to honor her parents. In 1999 she retired to the Motherhouse in Oldenburg, where she enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds.
She is survived by her sisters Betty Ann Brautigam, Rosalie Spolyarie and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents. Visitation is Tuesday, September 29th, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Pat McCloskey O.F.M. officiating.
