Sr. Mary Xavier Grieshop's Obituary
Sr. Mary Xavier Grieshop, age 100 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the convent. Born March 24, 1908 in Batesville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Mary Elizabeth (Nee: Kessing) and Frederic Grieshop.She entered the convent June 27, 1938 and made her final vows August 12, 1944. Sr. Mary Xavier taught at St. Joseph’s in Shelbyville, Indiana; St. Joseph’s in North Vernon, Indiana; Oldenburg Academy in Oldenburg; Holy Trinity, St. Mary’s Academy and Scecina High School, all in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as St. John’s in Middletown, Ohio and Our Lady of Angels in St. Bernard, Ohio. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1993.She is survived by her sister Bertha Hoelker of Batesville, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Marie Spraul, Angela Perry, Helen Boberg, Edna Barwick, Martha Herche and brothers Frederic, Fr. Gale O.F.M. and Joseph Grieshop.Visitation is Friday, October 3rd, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorial may be made to Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, Indiana, 47036.
