Sylvia L. Davis, age 61 of Bethel, Ohio, died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at her residence. Born February 13, 1948 in Ashland, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Pauline (Nee: Songer) and John Smith. She was a member of the Amelia First Church of God and worked for the University of Cincinnati Clermont Campus as an Administrative Coordinator for 20 years. While Sylvia enjoyed many varied interests; faith and family were her true passions. A member of Amelia’s First Church of God, she was board member and donated countless hours of her time and talent to spearhead many programs of community outreach through the church. Her greatest joy though, was time spent with her grandchildren. Together they would play, watch movies or put in their favorite episode of “I Love Lucy” and watch it over and over. She was compassionate and nurturing by nature, even in recent weeks as her health began to fail her, visitors would find themselves being the one consoled. Her family spoke about her cooking talent and “How she made everything taste good.” They fondly recall her potato salad, orange salad, meringue pies and how during the holidays, she liked to bake christmas cookies and other goodies. Naturally she was avid fan of the Food Network and a huge fan of Paula Deen’s show. Sylvia liked to watch old western movies and read Danielle Steel books. She was also an accomplished crotchetier along with sewing and enjoyed making blankets and afghans. Another of her hobbies was gardening. She was proud of her herb garden she planted each year as well her vegetable garden, canning the results of her efforts for her family to enjoy throughout the year. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Chris and Mary of Amelia, Ohio, Jeff of Bethel, Ohio; husband James of Cleveland, Tennessee; twin sister Cynthia Petrey of Amelia, Ohio; brother Michael J. Smith of Bethel, Ohio and grandchildren Jordan, Hailey and Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents. Visitation is Monday, December 7th, from 5-8 p.m. at the E.C.
