Sylvia C. Fisher's Obituary
Sylvia C. Fisher, age 88 of Osgood and formerly of Enochsburg, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Manderley Health Care Center. Born August 16, 1919, in Covington, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Mary (Nee: Anthe) and Harry Knapp. She married John Fisher June 28, 1941, at St. Xavier Church in Cincinnati.Sylvia cooked and helped with housekeeping at Hillenbrand Industries’ Jawacdah Farm for many years before retiring and was a member of St. John’s Church in Enochsburg. She always enjoyed time with her family and especially enjoyed having the grandkids “vacation” with her for several days during the summer and the tradition of them coming to help bake Christmas cookies. They loving referred to her as Grandma Bubbles, a variation from her childhood nickname of Bubba. An excellent cook, Sylvia had a loyal following for her pork chops and milk gravy as well as her chicken and dumplings. Her children were in awe of her devotion to her husband who suffered from Alzheimer’s in later years prior to his death. Eventually John could no longer stay at home and required skilled care and although she did not drive, for years she spent everyday at the nursing home with him, missing only two days. She is survived by daughters Judy Werner of Osgood, Bonnie Harmeyer of Enochsburg; eight grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Parlette and Virginia Kinstle as well as six great grandchildren.Visitation is Friday, February 8th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9th, at St. John’s Church with Rev. Rob Hankee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Manderley Health Care Wish Fund or Hospice of Jennings County.
