Sylvia M. Fuentes' Obituary
Sylvia M. Fuentes, age 79 of Batesville, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born August 25, 1936 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Catherine (Nee: Rahe) and Herman Dickman. She married Cress Fuentes April 19, 1958 at St. Louis Church and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1983. She worked in the housekeeping department at Hillenbrand Industries, retiring in 2000.
Sylvia was a member of St. Louis Church, a former member of the Red Hat Ladies Club and ran with her husband on the Sunman Rescue Squad for 10 years. In her free time she loved going to bingo and was a regular at both St. Louis and St. Anthony's bingo nights. She enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, making crafts and was a league bowler on Wednesday afternoons for years. Not much for sports, she referred to golfers as goofers, wasn't big on reading and even less with exercise. Her family fondly remembers her go to meal of pot roast, carrots and potatoes. However, once the kids had grown, Sylvia would develop a weakness for eating out and was a regular at McDonald's on Saturdays. Family though, was her true passion. She felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her eight children. She was delighted as the house began to fill with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren and relished having them around.
Sylvia is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Irene and Joe Miller of Williamsburg, Ohio, Kimberly and Anthony McGraw of Burlington, Kentucky, Diane May and Nick Minnick of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Christina Fuentes of Cincinnati, Ohio, Catherine and Dennis Pugh of Batesville, Denise Macdonald of Batesville, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Esughani Fuentes of Batesville; sister Shirley Suttmann of Batesville; brothers Richard and Alvin Dickman, both of Batesville; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Hostetter and brothers Herman, Louis and Eugene Dickman.
Visitation is Monday, October 5th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 6th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating, followed by burial in St. Nicholas Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Sunman Rescue Squad or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
