Thomas G. Bedel Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas G. Bedel Jr., age 60 of Batesville, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Born April 22, 1951 in Batesville, he is the son of Marjorie (Nee: Tebbe) and Thomas Bedel Sr. He married Brenda Vinson May 2, 1998 in Oldenburg. Tom served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. He later served four years in the Navy from 1978 to 1982. A concrete finisher, he worked for Bedel Concrete 15 years. According to his family, Tom preferred the simple things in life. His wife Brenda explained that it took forever to convince him that a cell phone was a good thing. And to say Tom loved animals would be an understatement. He did not hunt or fish for that reason, but instead he loved taking Ginger, his beloved Shar Pei, for daily walks. He also hated weeds but loved mowing and yard work, was a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and had a wickedly dry sense of humor. The courage and positive attitude he maintained as his health deteriorated provided comfort and strength for the family to lean on during those difficult times. He is survived by his wife Brenda; son Dustin Bedel of North Vernon, Indiana; step sons Israel Vinson of Laurel, Indiana, Andrew Vinson of Mexico, Indiana; mother Marjorie Bedel of Oldenburg; sisters Virginia Selkirk of Oldenburg, Beverly Unger of Batesville; brothers Stephen Bedel and Randall Bedel, both of Oldenburg and grandson Clayton Bedel.Private services will be held with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating and military honors provided the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Ripley County Disaster Fund for Holton in care of the Ripley County Community Foundation.
