Victor E. Kaiser's Obituary
Victor E. Kaiser, age 91 of Batesville, died Sunday, November 28, 2010, at his residence. Born October 29, 1919 in Cranberry Prairie, Ohio he is the son of Frances (Nee: Buehler) and William Kaiser. He married Geraldine Wernke April 8, 1947 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and she preceded him in death August 23, 1983. On September 23, 1989 he married Juanita “Dee Dee” (Nee: Siefert) Becker at St. Blaise Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Vic served in the Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the service he was a rural mail carrier for 30 years and later bought the Batesville Home Outfitters which he owned for 15 years before retiring in 1986. Vic served as mayor from 1984 to 1988 and again from 1992 to 1996 in addition to serving on the Indiana Ethics Commission from 1989 to 1991. A member of St. Louis Church, he was also a member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183, Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, Knights of Columbus Council #1461, Knights of St. John’s where he served as Supreme Commander and a former member of the Batesville Kiwanis and Batesville Lions Club.Most will remember Vic as an impeccable dresser and a dapper individual. Many will also recall his marvelous sense of humor and the old sayings and clichés he often used. He was proud of his neatly organized workshop where he liked making crèches or nativity stables. He was also handy and could fix most things around the house. Vic was an accomplished cook famous for his pork chops but also very much enjoyed eating out where he could mingle with family and friends. He loved his grandchildren and was a staunch Republican, but some things you probably didn’t know was he enjoyed the Reader’s Digest, T.V. comedies, games shows, “CSI” and “Law & Order”. He is survived by his wife Dee Dee; daughter Lisa Kaiser of Phoenix, Arizona; step daughters Lynn Stires of Cincinnati, Ohio, Michelle Holmes of Milford, Ohio; sisters Rita McGreevy of Sidney, Ohio, Betty Holtel of Oldenburg, Indiana; one grandchild and three step grandchildren. In addition to his wife Gerry and his parents, he is also preceded in death by sons Jon and Stephen Kaiser; sister Irene Treon and brothers Luke, Cyril (Rex) and Carl Kaiser. Visitation is Wednesday, December 1st, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2nd, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stephen Akange officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Louis School Tuition Angels.
