Vivian D. Goldsmith's Obituary
Vivian D. Goldsmith, age 80 of Batesville, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born December 30, 1932 in Cincinnati, she is the daughter of Helen (Nee: Baldock) and Charles Faulkner. She married Paul Goldsmith Sr. August 2, 1952 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. She worked ten years at Danner’s General Store becoming assistant manager, five years at Save-A-Lot and was a member of St. Louis Church, the Sacred Heart Society, Al-Anon and the Surviving Spouse’s Group. Vivian knew what she wanted and her family quickly learned this too. For instance, don’t call her at 7 p.m. because she was busy watching Wheel of Fortune. Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right are two other programs best left uninterrupted. Vivian also loved working jig saw puzzles, so when you came by be prepared to sit around the table and work on the puzzle if you planned on visiting with her. Other interests included making ceramics, watching her birds from the kitchen and playing solitaire the old fashioned way or on the computer. She enjoyed traveling with Paul and her favorite destination was Gatlinburg, which they visited often over the years. Vivian always said the rosary at night before going to bed, but according to the kids, sometimes it was an abbreviated version if she happened to nod off. Her family also talked about her ability to welcome new members into Al-Anon, helping to them to comfortably settle into the group. Family was important to her and the kids all agreed mom’s best friend was her sister Helen. They also laughed about the holidays in recent years. Mom would tell them “This year I’m too old to do Christmas.” Other plans would be made only for Vivian to let them know a few days before that they were all expected at the house. The kids also teased her about her shopping habits. She loved to shop and would bring clothes home ultimately to decide they didn’t fit or she really didn’t like them and have the kids find a new home for them. She is survived by her daughters Beverly Goldsmith-Bowling of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dawn Giltz of Fairfield, Ohio; sons Paul Jr. of Canton, Ohio, Douglas of Greensburg, Indiana, David of Bright, Indiana; sister Helen Bise of Batesville; brothers Charles of Sunman, Indiana, Steven of Holton, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Agnes Faulkner.Visitation is Tuesday, February 19th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 20th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Shawn Whittington officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
