Wanda R. Amberger's Obituary
Wanda R. Amberger, age 80 of Morris, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at The Waters of Batesville. Born December 16, 1933 in Ripley County Indiana, she is the daughter of Lena (Nee: Ludeker) and Herman Schutte. She married Bernard Amberger July 29, 1955 in Versailles, Indiana.
She was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church. A member of the Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church Association, Wanda was also a past President. Other organizations she belong to include the Owls Club, the Pocahontas's Women's Club, the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 women's auxiliary and a former member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 ladies auxiliary. She was very active in the church serving as assistant congregational minister, helping with the annual rummage sale, the church bingo at The Waters for over 30 years, quilting lap robes to be given to those in need in addition to traveling to Guatemala with Habitat for Humanity.
Wanda loved to travel near and far. A Navy wife, she and Ben saw a lot of the country during his 20 year military career. After settling back in Batesville, most days she could be found out and about for a leisurely drive which many times included a stop at McDonald's before heading home. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard, watching "Murder She Wrote", loved lilies and reading. Among her favorite's were the "Chicken Soup For The Soul" series. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Ben; daughters Jane Amberger of Batesville, Tina Austin of Morris; sons Mike of Morris, Jake of West Lafayette, Indiana; sisters Eileen Stirn and Alma Vierling, both of Batesville; brother Bob Schutte of Oldenburg; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Wanda will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church Saturday, November 15th. A memorial service follows at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jill Kepler-Campbell officiating. The family requests memorials to St. Mark Lutheran Church or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
