Wilfred W. "Bill" Schneider's Obituary
Wilfred “Bill” Schneider, age 87 of Oldenburg, died Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Waters of Batesville. Born December 7, 1923 in Ripley County Indiana near St. Nicholas, he is the son of Rose Ann (Riehle) and William Schneider. He married Anna Mae Bedel July 31, 1948 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. He retired in 1986 from Romweber Furniture Company after nearly 40 years where he worked in the finishing department as an up fitter. Bill loved being outdoors, especially out in the woods. In earlier years he liked to deer hunt and proudly displayed a ten point buck at the house as testament of his skill. He also would hunt for ginseng and was still chopping wood by hand as late as last year. Another outdoor activity he enjoyed was gardening. His family talked about the huge garden he put out every year and that he did most of the canning himself when it was harvest time. They referred to it as his labor of love. He was a hard worker and liked to stay busy. Down time was spent playing cards, with Solo his preferred game and following the Reds. He and Anna Mae were both Reds fans and the boys remember trips to Crosley Field when they were younger. During the discussion of their dad, one of the boys mentioned an interesting item. “Dad never borrowed a dime in his lifetime. He paid for everything he bought.” In fact, several years ago he applied for a credit card and was declined because he had no credit history. Now there’s a dilemma countless numbers of people across the country today would like to have.Bill is survived by his wife Anna Mae; daughter Carol Ann Schneider of Batesville; sons Stephen of Goshen, Indiana, Stanley of La Porte, Indiana, Andrew of Batesville; sister Clarissa Kist of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Wessel and Doloras Redelman.Visitation is Thursday, January 6th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, January 7th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Holy Family Religious Education Fund.
