William C. Bischoff's Obituary
William C. Bischoff, age 66 of Batesville, died Monday, October 25, 2010 at his residence. Born January 24, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of Marion (Nee: Tebbe) and Cyril Bischoff. He married Carlan VanFleet November 25, 1970 in Cincinnati. Bill earned an MBA and spent is his life working in sales and marketing. Early in his working career he was the Vice President of Sales at Hillenbrand Industries for 20 years and while at Hillenbrand’s, he was part of the original team that founded the Forethought Insurance Company. He then accepted the position of Executive Vice President of the Liberty Insurance Company and later spent 10 years with Aurora Casket Company as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and served as a consultant to Homesteaders Life Insurance Company. During the last several years he’s been doing consulting work for the Johnson Consulting Group in addition to serving on their advisory board.Bill’s family described him as a simple, humble man. A people person, his friends were important to him and keeping in contact with them was equally important to him. They shared that in addition to being an attendee as a boy, during his college years he served as a counselor at Ft. Scott Camp where he made lifetime friendships with several individuals. He was also a devout man, who in addition to being a member of St. Louis Church, also served on the church Parish Council, the Arch Bishop’s Council, Knights of Columbus Council #1461, Hillcrest Country Club and was a member of the Batesville Kiwanis. Free time was spent enjoying his hobbies which included golfing, fishing and being outdoors. Bill liked watching golf too, following the Reds and Bengals, and grilling where he would often prepare pork loin. When eating out though, Wagner’s chicken was hard to beat. In recent years he took up gardening, but it was hard to determine whether his sons found more humor in his gardening attire or his actual gardening skills. He usually was out working the beds in upscale casual clothing and apparently had staged an area with some rustic furniture that the boys couldn’t help but poke fun at, to which he replied, “Better Homes and Garden is coming to do a photo shoot”…….. according to the boys, the magazine still hasn’t been by. He is survived by his wife Carlan; sons and daughter-in-laws Will and Shannon of Tampa, Florida, Mike and Molly of Cincinnati, Ohio, Quentin and Amy of Batesville and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is Friday, October 29th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, October 30th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stephen Akange officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Hansen Center.
