William F. Neth's Obituary
William F. Neth, age 64 of Batesville, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born September 28, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa, he is the son of Bernyce (Nee: Alger) and Albert Neth. He married Peggy Foley August 4, 1973 in Davenport. Bill was an engineer for John Deere before moving to Batesville to be an engineer and Quality Assurance Manager for Batesville Casket Company from 1985 to 2000 when he retired. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam War.Bill was a gifted individual. He is responsible for several of the patents for new ideas, improvements and upgrades on many of Batesville’s caskets. He also developed software and wrote programs for the casket company as well as Disney's Travel Club. He even built a robot for his children to play with, which affectionately was referred to as the third child. His greatest enjoyment though, was time spent with his family, whether that was loading up the RV to take one of their many camping trips, getting the boat out for some fun on the water or having his pilot’s license, taking his family up for plane rides. With a love to travel and see new places, Bill and Peggy would certainly be considered world traveler’s having visited Japan, Alaska, Hawaii and five trips to Europe to take in the sights of most of the European countries over the years. An outdoor lover, trips to many of America’s National Parks and their breath taking scenery were also among his favorites. Those that knew Bill recall his dry humor, fondness of a good joke and the pleasure he took in teasing his children, his brother and his sister any chance he could. He is survived by his wife Peggy; daughter Kathleen Neth of Ellettsville, Indiana; son Michael Neth of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister Phyllis Browning of Brooksville, Florida and brother John Neth of Davenport, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is Tuesday, June 16th, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. The family requests memorials to the National Parks Service, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
