William J. Neyer, age 82 of Batesville, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born September 11, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he is the son of Rose (Nee: Meyer) and Joseph Neyer. He married Lois Huenke on August 22, 1951 at the St. Louis Priest House in Batesville.Bill served in the Marines during World War II and after the service owned Neyer’s Pure Oil Service Station for 12 years before accepting the manager’s position at Dunlap’s Building Materials where he spent the next 29 years before retiring in 1992. Although Bill enjoyed many interests over the years, his true passion was his family. His wife Lois said, “For Bill, family always came first. No exceptions.” He liked having his boys and their families around and spending time with them. Some of his other interests included hunting, fishing, bowling, model airplanes, the outdoors and cards. In his earlier years he could often be found squirrel hunting or fishing. Through the years, he was an avid bowler and in later years he became interested in building large scale model airplanes. Lois and Bill had property containing a large wooded area where Bill enjoyed spending time and often could be found cutting wood or out walking amongst the animals and trees. Eventually a cabin was built and became a place for relatives to enjoy picnics, parties and holiday celebrations. Bill also loved a good card game and especially liked poker and blackjack. His skill at Blackjack proved to be beneficial because while in the Marine’s, he accumulated enough winnings to use as the down payment of his first house.Bill is survived by his wife Lois, sons Michael of Greenwood, Indiana, Thomas of Madison, Indiana; a granddaughter, a grandson and a step granddaughter.
