Buddy Riley's Obituary
Buddy Riley, age 60 of Batesville, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at his home. Born September 2, 1950 in Batesville, he is the son of Dorothy (Nee: Baker) and Vernon Riley. He married Kathy Brinkman January 21, 1978 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. He was a supervisor with Batesville Casket Company for 39 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461, Sons of the Legion in Brookville and the Batesville Bowery Brothers. For those that knew Buddy, two things were a constant in his life. He had a great love for the outdoors and family and friends were extremely important to him. He liked deer hunting and fishing and Kathy remembers going turtle hunting with Buddy many times when they were first married. Since they didn’t have much money starting out, “it was cheap entertainment for us.” He also loved to hunt mushrooms and was the self proclaimed “Mushroom King.” All of that didn’t compare to the enjoyment he got from getting on his motorcycle for long rides. Because family was so important to Buddy, they always looked forward to getting on his bike for trips to Kentucky to visit with family. Many also considered him a great friend and enjoyed spending time at the Bowery. A huge University of Kentucky and Cincinnati Reds fans, countless nights were spent listening to or watching games. A perfect get together was a pot of bean soup, corn bread, cold Bud Light and friends. Children were special to Buddy and he enjoyed working with special needs children or with those from impoverished back grounds. Kathy shared that his proudest moments were the adoption of their son R.D. and R.D.’s recent graduation. Buddy is survived by his wife Kathy; son R.D., both of Batesville; mother Dorothy Riley of Metamora; sisters Diana Carey of Connersville and Debbie Edwards of Metamora. In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his brother Tommy Riley. Visitation is Thursday, September 23rd, from 1 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 24th, at the pavilion at Liberty Park and burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the Y.E.S. House in Manchester, Indiana.
