Gary C. Wettering's Obituary
Gary C. Wettering, age 63 of Batesville, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born August 24, 1951 in Batesville, he is the son of Ann (Nee: Schath) and Carl Wettering. He worked as a welder at Hill-Rom for 37 years before retiring in 2005 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461 in Batesville.
His family laughed that he and his dad could argue politics for hours. They also talked about him being a fanatical Dallas Cowboys fan. Apparently a third of his wardrobe consisted of Cowboys apparel. Gary also followed the Reds, enjoyed golfing, was an avid walker, liked spending time with friends watching sports at the Knights of Columbus and was well-known for his baked beans recipe at family get togethers, leaving the family wondering who will be able to duplicate it. When going somewhere, he was early to arrive and early to leave. The boys found it humorous that he relished his nickname of Wildman and that he would take daily rides through town. They joked about the fact that dad would not deviate from his route and evidently did this at least a couple times a day. His passion and interests shifted when granddaughters Morgan, Camren and Jorja came along. Gary was a proud grandpa and loved being with the girls.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Matt and Amy Wettering of Sunman, Rodney Wettering of Osgood; sisters and brother-in-laws Lynn and Tony Schene of Indiana, Connie and Spud Darringer of Batesville, Lisa and Mike Struewing of Batesville; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Rebecca Wettering of Greensburg; three granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is Tuesday, July 28th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 29th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
