Great-Uncle Louie was such a sweet, gentle and loving man. He easily engaged with everyone and made you feel special. My father had a special bond with Louie - I love to hear stories from both of them. Uncle Louie reminded me and my siblings of our grandfather (his brother Ed) in manner, expression and speech. We felt "Grandpa" live on for another 24 years. I remember seeing Uncle Louie's 90th birthday banner when my dad, sister Jo and I visited in October 2004 - 3 words stood out - just keep breathing! I refer to them often. I will really miss Uncle Louie. Love to Aunt Bertha, Angie and Rita. Peace to all!

We loved coming to see Uncle Louis and Aunt Bertha on our visits to Cincinnati, Batesville, and Oldenburg. They always made us feel very welcome. It was a treat to listen to Uncle Louie's stories and to hear about the old days in Oldenburg. He also had some good stories about our dad, Ed, to share with us. We will surely miss him, especially at the family reunions.

In more recent years we cherished our visits with Uncle Louie and Aunt Bertha when we traveled to the family reunions...We will miss him. Much love to Aunt Bertha, Angie and Rita.

Living most of my life in Philly, I only got to see my great uncle at reunions. It was always great to talk to him. He was the spitting image of my grandfather, his older brother Ed, and spoke exactly like Ed and had the same dry, stealthy sense of humor.

I have such fond memories of Uncle Louis. I loved to listen to his stories of the Hoelker family. He made me feel like I was in touch with my ancestors. I enjoyed watching him look at my father Ed with such fondness. I am happy he is at peace but I will miss him.

Uncle Louis was like a brother to me. I admired the way he could hoist 100 pound bags of feed, etc. on his shoulder and walk around Grandpa’s store in Oldenburg as if they weighed nothing. I couldn’t wait until I grew up enough to mimic him. Through walks in the woods around Oldenburg, he taught me about the flora and fauna. When I was about 12 years old Louis made a frog pond in the former barn behind the house in Oldenburg. It consisted of a basin enclosed by fly screen in which was located a small pile of rocks. From a water tank in the loft a tube ran down to the rocks to make a fountain. During several walks through the woods he caught many different kinds of frogs for the pond. I hand caught flies for food for the frogs. I sure enjoyed that summerThanks LouieEddie
