Martin H. Hartman's Obituary
Martin H. Hartman, age 68 of Cincinnati and formerly of Oldenburg, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born June 12, 1941 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Rose (Nee: Werner) and Joseph Hartman. He was a Cincinnati Firefighter for 28 years before retiring in 1993. He served in the Air Force reserve and was a member of the Retired Cincinnati Firefighters Association. While the family recalled some of their favorite “Marty” stories, three characteristics became evident. He was energetic, had a strong work ethic and enjoyed being able to help others. Obviously as a firefighter, these traits served him well. He truly loved his profession and did it well. Growing up on a farm, he learned to fix and build most anything and for many years as a sideline, he helped with a family business painting and remodeling homes. The pleasure of being at the farm never left him as he returned often. In his younger days Marty was an avid fisherman and also did some trapping. In later years he enjoyed dancing to music from the big band and swing eras and the elegance of dancing the rumba and the waltz. Marty is survived by his children Peter (Lisa) Hartman of Amelia, Ohio, Barbara (Luciano) Minico of Lancaster, Ohio, Jeff (Molly Dietz) Hartman of Cincinnati; sisters Dorothy (Francis) Flaspohler of St. Mary’s, Indiana, Evelyn (Oscar) Elsner North Vernon, Indiana, Lourine Gramman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rose Eckstein of Batesville, Indiana; brothers Richard Hartman of Oldenburg, Alfred (Erma) Hartman of Batesville, George (Elaine) Hartman of Cincinnati; ; fiancé Joyce Barth of Highland Heights, Kentucky; grandchildren Cory, P.J., Frankie and Faith Hartman, Carmelina and Vincenzo Minico as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sister Ruth Harpring and brother Joey Hartman.Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11th, at the funeral home. A memorial mass follows at Noon at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to The Greater Cincinnati Firefighters Memorial Park or the American Heart Association.
