Sr. Helen Lawrence's Obituary
Sr. Helen Lawrence, formerly Sr. Cherubine, age 93 of the Srs. of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the convent. Born December 24, 1914 in Dayton, Ohio, she is the daughter of Pauline (Nee: Wendeln) and Emmett Lawrence. She entered the convent December 29, 1934 and made her final vows July 2, 1940.Sr. Helen was an elementary teacher and principal at Our Lady of Mercy in Dayton, Our Lady of Angels and Our Lady of Victory in Cincinnati, as well as Little Flower, Holy Trinity, St. Mary’s Academy and St. Michael’s in Indianapolis. From 1964 to 1968 she served as Science Coordinator for the Cincinnati Archdiocese and from 1977 to 1984 served as Drug Education Officer. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1994.She is survived by her sister Sr. Mary Emmett Lawrence, also a member of the Srs. of St. Francis as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Ruth Schweller, Irene Roth and brothers Wendell and George Lawrence.Visitation is Tuesday, April 22nd, from 1-3 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow a 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
