Sr. Noel Marie Worland O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Noel Marie Worland, age 101 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the convent. Born November 20, 1911 in Shelbyville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Susan (Nee: Wheeler) and John Worland. She entered the convent September 6, 1931 and made her final vows July 2, 1937. A teacher and principal for 52 years, schools in Indiana included St. Mary’s in Rushville, St. Vincent’s in Vincennes, St. Mary’s in Evansville, St. Andrew’s in Richmond, Little Flower, St. Mark’s and Our Lady of Lourdes in Indianapolis, St. Andrew’s in New Richmond, St. Joseph’s in Shelbyville; Infant Jesus School in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico as well as Ohio schools Sacred Heart and St. Clements in Cincinnati, St. Ann’s in Hamilton and St. John’s in Middletown. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, kind disposition and love of her students in addition to the organization she brought to her teaching. A consummate reader, in later years she struggled with limited vision, but with the help of other sisters reading to her, she continued to enjoy the books she so loved. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her stepmother Lucy (Nee: Endres) Worland, sister Pauline Buckley, one niece and one nephew. Visitation is Wednesday, April 17th, from 1-3 p.m. at the motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg followed by services at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating.
